Giant short faced bear, a resident of the area 13,000 years ago.

I took an extra rest day in Ely, NV. I spent part of the day at a local museum that featured some mining equipment and railroad equipment, along with other historical items from the area.

  1. Paul and I saw a piece of mining equipment sitting by a trail in Colorado that looked just like one of the pieces you photographed. Strange to think of all those men working inside the mountains. We took a couple of foreign students to tour a mine in Deadwood, SD, and they told us how they worked in tandem with only one candle lighting their work. The mining company didn’t even supply the candles; men had to bring their own!
