Since I didn’t take a rest day in Hanksville, I decided to do so today. I hoped that my tent would provide some shade and the fly would funnel the wind into the tent so I could enjoy shade and a nice breeze. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough wind to funnel into the tent and the fly acted like the roof of a greenhouse, trapping the sun’s heat.

I did take the opportunity to explore the area a bit. There is not much vegetation, so the red dust covers everything. There are also large, black volcanic rocks sticking up everywhere. I climbed a small hill north of where I camped and was rewarded by a view of the valley I climbed yesterday.

Capital Dome, part of Capital Reef, was visible from the hill.
