The weather started warming up, and the terrain is flattening out. It is making the ride more pleasant and reminding me a bit of crossing the plains earlier this summer. Then again, maybe I just needed to find the right music to go with the ride.
There were a couple of little humps early in the day.
As I crested the second hump, I caught sight of Salt Wells. Salt Wells is an eight mile long salt flat and geothermal area.
The area was once an ancient lake. When the lake dried up, all the sand from the beaches blew into a little corner between two mountains creating Sand Mountain. People like to ride ATVs up and down sand mountain. From the highway, they looked like ants crawling up and down their anthill.
All along the salt flat, people had taken stones and written out messages, usually their names, on both sides of the highway. Some have been around for a while and the stones have started sinking back into the salt.
